FORGOTTEN PIONEERS
Many of our seniors are forgotten pioneers, now on the fringes of society because of low income, mental health issues, substance use issues, and other health concerns.
Many have lived in Edmonton’s inner city for many years.
Others worked all their lives up north in resource-based industries, migrating
to Edmonton and its inner city between jobs and during layoffs.
Others find themselves in the inner city because of the availability of cheap housing. Few have family support or ties. They are often isolated and alone. Most are fiercely independent, all have stories to tell, and desire to be treated with dignity and respect.
