OPERATION FRIENDSHIP WEBSITE

About Us >> History

Operation Friendship began with projects of Southminster United Church and the Sisters of Providence and was formally incorporated in 1974.  Our initial service was a Drop-In centre for local seniors who were being displaced by urban redevelopment.

Pioneer Place, a 175 unit apartment building was developed to respond to those housing needs, and now operates on it's own.

Since incorporation, Operation Friendship has offered a Outreach, Helping Hands, Housing Registry, and Volunteer programs.

In 1985, Operation Friendship Housing Society, a sister society was formed when the Rooming House was built for hard-to-house seniors.

Since 1998 we have managed McCauley Lodge.

We are currently managing an additional 42 apartment units in partnership with Capital Region Housing Corporation

In total, OFSS manages 180 housing units.

In November 2005, we amalgamated our two societies to become Operation Friendship Seniors Society.
